Join us for a fun and informative night of short films, food, drink and discussions. In acknowledgement of the International Day of Peasants’ Struggles we will be showing a series of short films about Bangladesh, climate change and the important work that many people in Bangladesh are doing.
We are raising funds for a training program, ‘Sponsor an Activist’, for rural women and youth to train as grassroots organisers in Dhaka. So far we have raised $3300 out of our total goal of $23,650! Help us to inch towards this massive goal by supporting us at our event on this evening.
We are Bangladesh Peasant Solidarity Network, an Australian solidarity group raising awareness of and funds for the Bangladesh Krishok Federation (BKF) & Bangladesh Kishani Sabha (BKS). These peasant-run brother and sister organisations are part of La Via Campesina (the worldwide peasant network). They work hard for food sovereignty, climate justice and gender equality in Bangladesh.
The BKF and BKS have facilitated numerous land occupations that have enabled people to have autonomy over their lives and livelihoods. They are working towards large scale agrarian reform through rallies and awareness raising, mobilisation of communities and through lobbying the government. At an international level they also advocate for Climate Justice.
There will be free food and drinks by donation on the night, as well as lots of goodies to buy such as postcards, t-shirts, gamchas, and dvds.
Speakers include Pathak Lal Golder – active BKF member
Price: Waged $15/Unwaged $7/Solidarity $25
